3rd Grade Imaginative Narrative Prompt:
Good Morning, boys and girls! Have you ever wondered what it would be like to take a trip to the solar system? Well, this morning we are going to find out what it is all about. On your trip you are going to make three stops: the planets, the sun, and the moon before you return back to Earth. Let's board the jet, buckle up, and get going! Once you land in the solar system, there will be an astronaut waiting on YOU! It is your job to collect as much information as you can from the astronaut about the planets, the sun, and the moon. Be sure to take advantage of this awesome opportunity. Not many third graders get to take a trip to OUTER SPACE!Once you land back in the classroom, you need to complete your graphic organizer that is attached to the back of your instruction sheet. For your conclusion, you must state how your three stops compare or relate back to the Earth. You may use your peer buddy to help you brainstorm some ideas. Now, you are ready to write your rough draft.
Be sure to:*Use descriptive details *Use dialogue *With your peers: plan, revise, and edit *Recognize the major components in the earth/ moon/ sun system *Demonstrate capitalization, punctuation, and spelling
Reflection:I enjoyed using the Voicethread program, and I feel like it made my story much more interesting to read. The project was time consuming, but I know that it was well worth it. I feel like I will use my Voicethread to show to my own class in the near future. I thought that the voices were the best part and really enjoyed working with other people on that particular part. I was very confused on how to embed my Voicethread onto the Wiki page. However, I thought that uploading pictures and recording voices was very simple and kid friendly.
I would use the Voicethread as a class project in my classroom. I want to teach first or second grade so assigning the Voicethread as an individual project would not be appropriate. I would use the program to turn each student's favorite writing assignment into one class Voicethread or story. I would allow each student to do their own slide and narrate their own piece of writing. I feel like young students could get easily confused on how to operate the program. I would make their individual assignments very simple and make sure that I went through how to use the Voicethread in a detailed manner. Students will think that something like this is cool because it is something different. They also get to choose which writing assignment they want to use, what picture they want to use, and how they want to speak. Students will take advantage of this opportunity because they do not have such restricted requirements. With technology being such an important part of both teaching and the society we live in today, Voicethead is an awesome opportunity to incorporate technology skills, imagination, and learning all in one!
